Troutman Pepper eMerge Achieves ISO 27001 Certification, Providing Clients with Increased Information Security
May 5 2021
Troutman Pepper eMerge is now certified under the ISO 27001 information security management standards by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 27001 is a globally recognized standard for the establishment and certification of an information security management system and provides requirements to help companies best govern the security of assets, such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details, and information entrusted by third parties.
“Our pursuit of ISO 27001 certification was driven by our clients,” said Alison Grounds, managing director of Troutman Pepper eMerge. “We recognize the importance of information security for their businesses, and this certification demonstrates we are making the necessary investments in our people, processes, and technology to protect their data.”
To achieve ISO 27001 certification, eMerge underwent a comprehensive data security audit that occurred over several months, notably during a period in which all employees were operating remotely because of the pandemic. The certification was performed by Schellman & Company, LLC, an ANAB and UKAS accredited certification body based in the United States.
“It is particularly impressive that eMerge was able to achieve this high level of certification in an unprecedentedly challenging period, during which our team transitioned to a fully remote work environment,” said Brannon Millard, director of eMerge Security & Infrastructure. “Because the firm and the providers that support eMerge are also ISO 27001 certified, this is really a defense-in-depth approach, meaning our clients’ data is protected by multiple layers of security controls spanning multiple organizations. We are proactively protecting our clients’ data at every level.”
Troutman Pepper renewed its ISO 27001 certification last month. Relativity, a long-time eMerge partner and industry leader in legal and compliance technology, earned ISO 27001 certification for its end-to-end cloud platform RelativityOne in 2017.
“In a field like e-discovery, where some of the most sensitive data is at play, tangible verification of best security practices is paramount to assuring clients that their information is safeguarded,” said Amanda Fennell, chief security officer at Relativity. “Achieving this high standard of security is a major accomplishment and a true testament to Troutman Pepper eMerge’s dedication to providing best-in-class security to their clients. Relativity was glad that we could offer our expertise, support, and guidance throughout the certification process.”
