Troutman Pepper Locke’s Tech Leaders Discuss Importance of Women in Legal Tech, Firm’s AI Developments
Mar 21 2025
As firms move fast to embrace generative artificial intelligence and legal innovation, Troutman Pepper Locke sees itself as ahead of the field. The firm, which launched a gen AI chatbot called Athena in 2023, believes there are several ways to foster innovation internally. One of the most important, however, is ensuring different perspectives are being heard—especially those of underrepresented groups.
For instance, Troutman Pepper Locke recently hosted Catalyst, the flagship event of ILTA’s Women Who Lead, across four offices on March 13.
Legaltech News spoke with managing partner Amie Colby, founder and managing partner of e-discovery subsidiary Troutman eMerge Alison Grounds, and chief knowledge management and innovation officer Will Gaus prior to the event to discuss the status of women in legal tech, blurring the build vs. buy distinction and why the firm decided to develop Athena.
